Bathrooms, Flooring, Siding- Oh My!

Oh hey 🙂 I’m back! Today I think we’ll fly through most of the rest of the showroom options as we head in to final selections later this week (Woohoo!!)

Let’s pause, to check out my pre-selection face 🙂

So.. we chose pretty standard bathrooms because this is something Josh and I can easily update when we are ready in the future. Here’s a snapshot of the powder room on the first floor (powder, not included) Bad joke, I know…

Love the pedestal sink option! No charge for it. Bonus! Next is what our master bath will look like- minus a few things.

So- the sink will be extended for a makeup counter (that’s literally what they called it!) and the cabinets will be the dark brown exactly like our kitchen cabinets. The walk-in shower comes standard, minus the hideous yellow paint- thank the Lord! Like I said, all the hardware will be standard because we can easily upgrade later if we want. Hollywood lights, white marble and tan linoleum- you get the picture 🙂

I was going to show off our rock star (*ahem* plain-Jane, standard, boring) toilet… but I thought I’d spare you the lameness.

Next is the guest bathroom. We did spring for a linen closet next to the sink (as pictured) simply because the upstairs doesn’t have a linen closet at all (weird!).

It will be so nice to store everything and have it all so handy without putting it all in our own closet (more clothes room for me!)

Love the next picture! It shows off all the color combos we have chosen thus far!

We’ve got neutral linoleum, tan carpet, dark brown cabinets, green/black countertops, and a tan backsplash (synonyms for tan… please!)

We did upgrade our entryway to have wood laminate which I am SO EXCITED FOR. Check it out!

Our siding choice isn’t set in stone yet, but below are the choices we are excited about at this moment (ask us in a day, our opinion may have changed by then)

We are pretty sure we are going to go with the right option just because it will make the house a bit more dynamic (man I’m getting artsy, huh?) Next picture shows that siding color with the charcoal color of our shutters and (wait for it…) GREEN FRONT DOOR!

SO excited about that door, honestly. Its going to be fabulous and stand out like a sore thumb and THAT’S OKAY!

Last picture! Our front door style is a relatively cheap upgrade that was totally worth it for me to let a bit of light in.

Phew… that was a long post! Hope you enjoyed perusing the pictures 🙂 If you’re wondering, hm, where is the fireplace Lien has been ranting and raving about?! Sir Joshua took zero pictures of it while at the showroom. Blame him. More on the (awesome) fireplace to come in the future.

Stay tuned as the BUILDING COMMENCES!!!!

Ooba Tuba and Other Joyful Things

Just a little funny from our vacay last summer to Upstate New York 🙂 Love the intensity?!

So anywho- here is post number two (on a roll!). First things first, because I’m dying to show you all- our new plot of land! Actually, first comes the story that accompanies this picture, because its too bland without the juicy details. So- Josh and I have an idea in mind to take a photo of us next to our plot of land with each phase of the building process and then creating some sort of a cool flippy slideshow thing at the end to show progress. In order for this to work, we need to stand in the exact same spot each and every time. Another idea we thought of at that time was to include our itty bitty kitty Kaylee in each photo (because, as Josh says, “she IS part of our family”). So here I am, with a shivering kitty, standing perfectly still as Josh sets up his tripod for the “perfect shot”. If any of you know him, this process can sometimes take awhile and he clicks quite a few pictures of me staring off into space or perhaps trying to discretely pick a booger. As he’s nearing the end of this dealio, I hear him start to gasp and then giggle like a little kid. I am baffled by this and ask him what in the heck is up. He then lets me know through giggles that our shivering kitty is currently pooping all down my new coat as well as onto the snow in front of me. Classy? I think so. We hurriedly snapped a few pictures of both of us and our dumb cat next to our plot and then zoomed away home. On the way home, our cat decided to pee herself in her carrier… Needless to say, our “essential part of the family” won’t be joining us for any other photo ops in the future, thank you very much. And now, after long awaiting it—> the photo!

And yes, if you’re wondering, we DO have a corner lot (bonus!). If you’re also wondering where in the world the kitty poo is, my dear husband photoshopped it out of the picture. HAHA! We spared you the gory details. You’re welcome.

Now onto the interior details, if you please 🙂 We went to our showroom appointment on Thursday to pick out all our fabrics and hardware and everything you can think of for a house (including grout colors!). I think I’ll split it up and bit and just show the kitchen sh-tuff for you today, and add the rest later this week.

This next picture is of our lovely granite countertops (another bonus!) and the lovely name that accompanies them–> OOBA TUBA! Image

I am in love with the green/black color and it will go so well with these cabinets (see below)Image

Yes, that is also the linoleum we picked out for our kitchen floors 🙂 And yes, we chose a 60/40 sink so our biggest pots can be washed on one side. So, to recap- dark counters, dark cabinets (sounding pretty dungeon-y, I know) and then tan linoleum and a tan tile backsplash… as seen below!Image

The two tile colors we are between are shown, but the green one shows up really really green in person, so that might be a no, go. As mentioned earlier, we had to pick our grout color as well (what?!) and so we dug to the deepest depths of our interior decorating skills and came up with… white! Thoughts?! Here’s another visual Image

My necklace is awesome, and totally in the way, I know 🙂 Next, our splurge for a nice kitchen faucet (with sprayer!). Image

So all in all, our kitchen may look a tich similar to this (ah-em- *gorgeous*) one. YAY! Image

The castled look on top comes standard with the cabinets we chose. We won’t know what to do with all the extra space we’ve got!

I think that’s all for now, folks. Stay tuned for more from our showroom fun 🙂 And then in 6 weeks or so, the actual building process begins (finally!) so that will be EVEN better!!!

So… it’s official… I have succumbed to the insurmountable pressure and started a blog 🙂 This is a spot where I plan to document the comings and goings of the Swieringa clan as we build our dream home, move in and repaint the whole thing to our liking, eventually have some kiddos (shh don’t tell the hubs yet), and generally cause trouble at our new address: 15045 Loxley Lane!

I promise you I decided to start a blog about a month ago. Now what stopped me from publishing until just now, you ask? A title. If you hate my title… you can go be creepy elsewhere because it took me FOREVER! Truly, how do people come up with these things? I swear I researched every famous blogger and their tips (not so helpful, unless I wanted my blog to be called “Lipstick Stains in Lisbon”…) So, Loxley Lane seemed appropriate as that is where our musings will be happening from now on. Be a hater, I dare you.

I told myself I’d keep this blog post short in order to encourage more posts in the future without the pressure to write a 6 page narrative essay each time. Come back soon and see how our house is coming along- I will be sure to add lots of pictures of the lot in the next few weeks here (along with all our selections from the Home Selections Appointment- from siding to toilets). Its going to be a blast and a half, and I’m so excited to share the journey with you all.

Enjoy the SUNSHINE! We all know it will probably snow next week, so we have to soak it up while we can 🙂
